John and Claire, parents of two beautiful children, initially fell in love with their quirky 70s house for its unique mid-century architecture. John recalls, "We bought the house, we actually fell in love with it. It was a quirky 70s house, being lovers of mid-century architecture. The house, while it was dated, had a certain look and feel about it that we loved."Before purchasing the house, they sought advice from Justin, the builder behind Abode Construction.

"Justin was one of the first to see the house and said, 'This house is cool, you got to buy it,' and could sort of see the potential that we saw in it as well,"

This was not their first project with Justin; they had previously renovated another house in Newmarket with him in 2011. "We were really happy with the build that was done then and really looked to engage him a second time," John said. There were times when things didn't always go smoothly." However, Justin's constant reassurance made a significant difference. "Even when things became tense, he would say, 'Trust the process,' and he was correct. He never shied away from communicating and addressing our concerns."

Their hands-on approach and eye for detail sometimes made the process more demanding, but the result was worth it. "We took a hands-on approach to the design and selection of materials. We knew what we wanted and Justin exceeded our expectations in the end," John remarked.

Living on-site meant John and Claire saw the transformation daily, but the final reveal was still breathtaking. Claire reflected, "It wasn't like that grand, here's the finished product moment, but there was a massive relief. We had our home back, modernized, and more livable for today."

One of the most significant changes was the indoor-outdoor living space. "The previous house didn't celebrate or bring any of the outside in. Through Justin's hard work, we opened the whole back of the house, lifted the roof, and created a space we live in as a family," John explained. This area quickly became the heart of their home, enhancing not only their family life but also their community interactions.
